In Denver, Colorado the Brown Palace Hotel signature High Tea is a special holiday event that continues into January. Holiday decorations in the hotel lobby remain in place. You’ll enjoy live piano or harp music throughout your delicious experience.

If you attend in January during the National Western Stock Show, you may see the Grand Champion Steer led down a red carpet to be put on display in the lobby during the afternoon tea. Photos are encouraged!

The afternoon tea is very popular especially during the end of year holidays. I encourage you to make reservations now to secure your dates.

Each person chooses a tea served in individual teapots. Pam and Sean watch the skilled wait staff pour the selected teas into each teacup, which has a strainer to catch the loose tea leaves.

I chose The Brown’s Crown Jewel special blend of Assam tea, “a nice tippy leaf with a malty bright flavor, and Ceylon tea, a light, high grown leaf with a pungent, brisk flavor.” I loved this full bodied tea which is exclusive to the Brown Palace Hotel.

Kup Kaps did a great job keeping our teas hot in the teacups, but next time I’ll take small Tea Tabard cozies to place on each teapot!

We ordered the Chocolate Decadence three tier service. The hotel’s culinary staff prepares the delicate pastries, artful confections, tea sandwiches, and large scones each day. Smooth Devonshire cream is shipped directly from England.

Pam decided to make her own dessert by taking a sugar cube from the silver sugar bowl, dipping it into her tea, and then popping it into her mouth for a sugary tea treat!

Sitting among the crumbs was my last treat for the tea - a chocolate teacup filled with a light creamy filling. After I put it in my mouth, I had one of those swooning moments when you close your eyes and utter a quiet “ummmmmm”!
