The Naked Truth about 100% Kona Coffee 2009 Calendar – Miss January
I found my copy of The Naked Truth about 100% Kona Coffee 2009 Calendar tucked away in one of my file drawers. Because it’s an interesting source to learn about coffee farming, I’m going to highlight each months’ farmer throughout 2017.
Miss January has a five-acre farm in Captain Cook, Hawaii. As of 2009, she has been a coffee farmer for 8 years but is now retired.
For January we learn: "The coffee tree is a very energetic grower and would rapidly become an unwieldy bush that would produce fruit biennially. To keep the tree healthy, manageable and with a consistent yearly production, it is pruned every year. Older branches are pruned off to leave typically three to four branches per tree, so that the new growth will have the light and space it needs."
